Here's a depiction of Christopher Columbus wearing a hat on the 1992 Gold Half Eagle ($5) that was part of the three-coin US commemorative program for the 500th anniversary of Columbus' voyages to the New World. Columbus appears to be looking out to the New World on the obverse. On the reverse, is a map showing the Atlantic Ocean and a part of the Old World. The coin was available in proof and uncirculated versions from the US Mint; my collecting preference has always been the uncirculated examples.

Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother (August 4, 1900 -- March 30, 2002) is presented in full sartorial elegance on this 2002 commemorative Silver Dollar from Canada. She is depicted dressed formally and wearing one of her many hats. The coin's design is based on the photograph shown on the coin's pictorial "Beauty Box."
