Golden Rule Pure Food House Medal
Columbus, Ohio, Silver Medal dated 1919 issued by the "Golden Rule Pure Food House" which is the brand name for the Citizens Wholesale Supply Co.
The obverse has a shield in the center containing "TRADE MARK GOLDEN RULE CWS CO monogram REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." in four lines. Above the shield is the company founding year 1894 and below the issue year 1919. All within legend "GOLDEN RULE SILVER JUBILEE".
The reverse has the 14 line inscription "PRESENTED BY THE GOLDEN RULE PURE FOOD HOUSE TO ETHEL MEYERS (name is engraved) UPON THE OCCASION OF OUR SILVER JUBILEE AS A SPECIAL MARK OF APPRECIATION FOR EFFICIENCY AND ATTENTION TO DUTY."
The medal is not marked but is .900 fine silver as indicated by a specific gravity of 10.3. Diameter is 35 mm and weighs 18.35 grams, plain edge. The medal is in very nice used condition and Rare.
Chicago Publisher Quarrie Corporation Medal
Quarrie Corporation Sterling silver medal, 14.52 grams, 33.8 mm in diameter, plain edge marked sterling. The obverse has a rectangular frame containing "THE QUARRIE CORPORATION" on a large letter Q crossed with a quill feather. Above and below in curved frames is "TWENTY-FIFTH" at the top and "ANNIVERSARY" below. The reverse "ACHIEVEMENT" at top and "AWARD" at bottom in curved frames. The date 1942 is at top center above the engraved name "Doris Tribble".
The Quarrie Corporation was a Chicago book publisher best known for it's Child Craft books and the World Book Encyclopedia. If the 1942 date is their 25th anniversary they would have been founded in 1917. Quarrie was acquired by Field Enterprises (Marshall Field's) in 1945 and were merged into Field's on Jan. 1, 1949. The medal is in nice used condition. This is a rare medal.
