Beautiful UNC trade dollar, with chopmarks on both sides, still has plenty of luster. This coin has been graded "UNC Details CHOPMARKED" by NGC.

"Trade dollars were minted by the United States between 1873 and 1878 to serve as a sort of international trade coin, primarily for use in Asia... Asian merchants would punch "chop marks" in the coin's surface to both identify it and to test its purity."

- Once shunned, Trade dollars with Asian chop marks now have a market

For the life of me I have no idea how a TPG can call a chop marked dollar UNC anything. T he chops prove the coin circulated and was handled by merchants.

PCGS do even grade them with numeric grades (e.g. MS62 Chop mark, MS63 Chop mark,,,), LoL

Use "Mint State" maybe more reasonable than "UNCirculated"

I know where they are coming from, it's just one of those things that bugs me. But really, is a chop marked coin "Mint State" (as it came from the mint)?

NGC "Details" chop marked Trade Dollars. PCGS give a numeric grade which likely gives them more value to people that collect chop marked Trade Dollars. The OPs coin is a very nice Trade indeed!
