Over four days in Paris I picked up three coins from the street - a one eurocent, a two eurocents and a five eurocents. None filled in any gaps in my collection!

Slim pickings but at least you found some, NumisRob.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

None filled in any gaps in my collection! good eye, NumisRob. the finds might not always be great, but it is great 'training' for the eyes; i'll come back to that in a minute. I rarely find euro coins, but I do find them and I'm always surprised. I most likely have a bunch of pictures of them. I think I've found euros from germany, france, italy, ireland and greece (and maybe other countries) in key west parking lots over the past 7+ years, usually at a grocery store, laundromat or gas station. tonight as I was leaving my place for the nightly bike ride, kitty-feedings & money-finding I picked a nickel from the street barely 100 feet from my gate. I considered it a good omen... and it was. while on my route I was pedaling thru the winn-dixie parking lot around 1am with fifty-one cents in my pocket. out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of what looked like a coin spill. I cycled back around for a closer look... and it was: fifty-seven cents... a quarter, two dimes and a bunch of zincolns. kind of minor-to-middling as coin spills go, but it was my first spill in quite a while and it put my total up over the dollar mark, with the last third of the route to go. i ended up with $1.42 for the night. several picks tonight were in oddly lit, out of the way places. most people wouldn't see them, but the trained eye can spot them, day or night. I think to myself, 'it's a wonder I saw that' often enough...

MrPink2018--curious... May have missed it, but do you ever cross paths with law enforcement while peddling through empty parking lots late at night? If so, have these encounters always gone well?

(emphatically) YES. not recently, but yes, several times in the past. Quote: If so, have these encounters always gone well? so far... well enough, I guess... I have stories, but most of those stories I try to just forget about. I have learned over time to completely dodge any parking lot where police are just hanging around, which they do often. I can go back to it later, or the next night, after they've gone. I've never been cuffed or arrested or jailed due to my nocturnal activities.
