586 lots stolen - mostly ancients but some world coins too. The Coinsweekly article is here: https://www.coinsweekly.com/en/News...e/4?&id=5819

And listings of the lots, including the hammer prices from the auction which had just concluded, start at the link below. Many of these coins are of exceptional quality:

I agree Bob. Thanks for posting the link to the auction itself.

Such a shame.

Ugh. That's awful. The only possible upside is that there is no upside to melting these coins for the metal value so hopefully they are rescued and returned.

i wonder who actually has to pay? I mean the seller technically sold their items, but the buyer didn't receive what they paid for. would the auction house take the loss in this case or what (insurance)?

The only way to get a really good price for them is to try to dispose of them through internationally recognized coin dealers, or through the international auction system.

All lots would have been accurately described and documented.
THAT fact will make it much harder to dispose of them in a clandestine way. Computer records for these lots will not be allowed to die, so it would even be a poor position for whoever wants to dispose of them, even in 20 years time.

Provenance IS important to auctioneers, dealers and collectors alike.
