I recently "scored" a coin that I have always wanted to own
I won it at auction despite certainly expecting to lose !
I have bought numerous coins from the seller in the past 3 years and have been quite satisfied with the results

But I do have a suspicious nature
In addition to being a major league "cheapskate" !

So while the spendthrift side of me is pleased .....
The suspicious side of me is activated !
I see nothing that screams fake
And I see things that seem correct
But love is often blind to truth .....

So I offer it to your 'jaundiced' eyes to interrogate further on this last day of 2018

Emperor Trajan AD 99-117

Trajan on horseback galloping right hurling spear at fallen Dacian beneath horse

RIC 543 Sear 3204
Rome AD 107

I do expect to hear from "Ben" !
He has a good eye for such questions
IN GOD WE TRVST ....... all others pay cash !

I think ...... therefore I yam

IMO the coin appears genuine, the letters in the legend are sharp and don't appear to be cast and the overall detail is consistent with genuine wear. Even the patina looks right. A very nice coin. Congrats.

Your introduction is quite Shakespearian !

Style OK
Surface OK
Patina OK
Weight OK

No sign of casting is obvious to my eye.

Have a close look at the edge with a loupe, but so far, I am thinking that edge will be OK as well.
Also have a close look at the metal below the bust truncation. I have not formed any opinion in my mind about that yet.

Almost all of my mind so far says genuine, but you are like me, and always ask the question. I think that is always good discipline to have.

It is a nice coin because all of the legend is readable, and all of the design is complete. That is one thing I always look for, with larger Roman bronzes.

Fabric looks a-okay to me (maybe some minor smoothing under the bust?) and it doesn't match the only example on the Fake Reports, I think its real.

Having that full legend on such a big coin is nice.
