I think that there's a damaged mint mark punch for this year? I don't think it's an RPM.

with Spruett001. The leg of the "D" would be about 1/2 the size it should be if it were a RPM.

The separation doesn't look flat like MD but does appear to have notching on the upper serif.
Keep us in the loop if you send it in but remember Wexler is trying to get caught up and is a few months(3-5) behind.

There was a damaged punch issue that year, but the upper and lower serifs were affect in the wrong directions.

But is a RPM.

I found one similar to it. It looks a bit like coppercoins 1988D-1MM-002

Eerily similar but it looks like 002 is a little further west than the OP's coin.
