1878 10C Seated Liberty Proof Dime PR66CA CAMEO PCGS CAC - TOP OF POP






Well I've decided it's time to part ways with this pretty little lady that's been featured on the logo of my coin business for quite some time. It's been wonderful to be her caretaker but I think I'm ready to let someone else welcome her into their collection and enjoy her exquisite beauty. Perhaps even make her the centerpiece of a first rate proof Seated dime collection.

The toning on her is truly one of a kind, quite stunning actually. She exhibits bright silver over part of the obverse and reverse, with concentric blue, violet, and gold toning over the remaining surfaces. With excellent contrast between the mirrored fields and lustrous devices. To me it looks as if she's gazing towards the sunset and basking in its glow on a warm summer evening.

This little gem is the top of her population for all 1878 Cameo Proof Seated dimes, of which only 800 where minted. Only 4 coins have been given the grade of PR66CA by PCGS and they have graded none higher. Of the 4 coins to receive this grade, I believe she is the finest by far. PCGS seems to agree as they've chosen to use her as their featured plate coin on the Coinfacts website.

Not surprisingly she's also met the high standards to be given the CAC green bean for quality and outstanding eye appeal.

I paid almost $4000 for here from Legend Numismatics back in 2013 but a coin like this sets its own price. It's been 15 years since the last PCGS PR66CA sold at auction. No price guide is really going to help that much.

This is a 7 day auction that will end next Sunday night and I'm starting her out at $2500 but who knows what she'll bring.

I could probably get a little more for her by listing her in one of the major Heritage or Legend auctions but the collectors here on eBay have been great loyal customers to me over the years so I thought it more fitting to feature her here.
