If that is not a story which boils everyone's blood here, I don't know what is.
The first thing one would think is "statute of limitation". This does not apply to murder and other serious, felony crimes like murder, grand theft, burglary, etc. I don't know the policy in your state. Could it hurt to check with your local p.d. or sheriff's office? If you do, make sure you make an appointment to speak with a DETECTIVE at the agency. It is way too easy to blow someone off on the phone by the beat cop.
Another thing... the statue of limitations, I believe, depends on what state you are in. In some states, it applies from the year of the crime IF REPORTED AT THAT TIME. In other states, the statute applies after a number of years after the crime, WHETHER IT WAS REPORTED OR NOT AT THE TIME.
However, I believe that in some states the actual statue of limitations begins WHEN YOU FIRST REPORT THE CRIME. NOMATTER WHEN IT OCCURRED, OR WITHIN, SAY, THE LAST 30 YEARS. In this case, you might stand a chance.
If I am understanding the facts correctly, It can't hurt to try. check this, off the internet (I know, the internet is certainly not gospel).
The statute of limitations may begin when the harmful event, such as fraud or injury, occurs or when it is discovered. The US Supreme Court has described the "standard rule" of when the time begins as "when the plaintiff has a complete and present cause of action.".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statu..._limitationsbest of luck to you, let us know if there is any progress. I am a retired cop myself and there is nobody I hate more than a bad cop, I've seen my share of them over a 24 year period.
lets say you or a detective, private or otherwise, manages to dig up something, but not enough for a d.a. to file charges on. If your state's statue of limitation begins WHEN IT IS NOT ONLY WHEN JUST DISCOVERED, BUT REPORTED, there may be a chance. It's a slim one tho and I do not wish to give you false hope.
I could suggest taking the matter into your own hands but I got banned from this board once and do not wish to repeat the experience. Please, if any updates, let us know.
