$40 is quite an unusual denomination

Thanks Scots (yes, that's why I went after it). But its from 1974 (2nd issue) & only dear because of its oddly popular denomination. Now for the 1971 $10 & $25 (which will be tougher/dearer than the latter74 issue). Could take some time to find those 2.

Only the reverse side of the 50pf note has a ship..........but what a great graphic! Note is issued in Emden and shows the 'S.M.S. Emden' (His Majesty's Ship Emden)

This 50pf piece is from Neustadt (Holstein). It is stated as such because there are other towns called Neustadt but located in other regions of Germany:

The reverse side looks like it has been taken straight from a photo.

At last I can post the latest addition to my banknote collection in this thread - the new Bank of England £20!

The reverse of the note depicts painter JMW Turner and his masterpiece 'The Fighting Temeraire'. The Temeraire warship was launched in 1798 and saw action at Trafalgar. The painting shows her being towed by a tug up the Thames to be broken up for scrap in 1838.

Nice one NumisRob, lovely colour hues on the new £20. The reverse is really nice.
I honestly think that a better image of QEII could be used though.

-Like engraving used for this Twenty Pound note (P27a) from Gibraltar?

(The text on the reverse below the ships, next to Admiral Nelson, states "HMS VICTORY RETURNING TO GIBRALTAR 1805")

Q.E.II looks to be sporting a "Marilyn Monroe" type hairstyle on that Gibraltar £20
