Francisco Morazan (1792-1842)

Head of State of Honduras before becoming President of Central America, regarded as a visionary, he attempted to transform Central America into one, large progressive nation.
Morazan was a liberal reformer and an advocate of freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of religion, secular marriage and lessening the grip of the RC church.
This gained Morazan many powerful enemies.
He maintained control until around 1837 & the eventual fracturing of The Central American Federal Republic.
Morazan ended up in exile, his return in 1842 ended in betrayal by a friend & he was executed by firing squad.
Morazan's image is preserved on the banknotes, stamps, schools, parks & various institutions of Central American nations.
Nearly 180 years after his death Central America is still plagued by power struggles, corruption & poverty.
What could have been?
