There has been a lot of discussion about the state of coin collecting. Some have dire warnings, others think that the hobby is just evolving.

All these discussions seem to be North American centric.

A coin collecting friend of mine who has travelled in India extensively says that coin collecting is thriving in India, with many young collectors and rising prices of formerly common items.

The interest seems to more in the pre-republic period.

Of course, the numismatic history of India is rich indeed. There is much to be interested in.

Indian numismatics is on the rise in India, most probably due to a growing middle class. There is a huge volume of old time research into Indian numismatics to help them.

Coin collecting is on the rise in Asia areas is on the rise for the same reason. Asian collectors seem to place more emphasis on modern precious metal collector issues.
The Perth Mint has been aware of the growth of the Asian collector base, and promotes many of their new issues to them.

Growth of the collector base in the Middle East has been slower, because these folks have other societal problems that affect their lives to a greater extent.
That is a pity, because a huge volume of research has been done, with regard to Islamic numismatics.

The growth of the collector base in the North America, Europe and Australasia is also growing, but at a slower rate than either India or Asia. These markets are relatively mature.

Nevertheless, by looking at what countries CCF members come from, it is very obvious that the North American collector market is by far the biggest.
