@g048406, interesting coin! My eye immediately saw the missing hair curl near the designer's initial.

Would you be willing to post three close-ups?
The eye
The top of the cap, near the cap curl
The "ED" of UNITED to the eagle's right wing tip (our visual left)

@g048406, unless my old eyes deceive me, I see all three markers for 1899 VAM-1A which makes your coin a bona fide proof. The missing hair at the curl is a known die polishing marker for later die state 1899 proofs. Fantastic photos, by the way!

EDIT: I also suspect that you knew exactly where I was heading when I asked for the closeups. Awesome coin!
