Apparently very heavily circulated. However, even accounting for wear, there's significant discrepancies with this example vis--vis the regal specifications. The diameter is a bit variable at 27.5 to 27.7 mm. The weight's very much on the light side at 6.6 grams, and it's very thin with an edge thickness of just 1.2 to 1.4 mm. It does exhibit coin alignment which would be correct for only 1782.

Would I be wrong in thinking this to be a contemporary counterfeit?

I agree; I don't think it's a regal issue.

Yes I agree - contemporary counterfeit. I believe there are actually more of the counterfeits than the regals around these days.
