Went to my LCS this am looking for 1880-1909 Indian cents in VG8 to F12 range for completion of the series. They had a 50 coin tube of problem free VG's for $1.60 each, didn't have time to hunt and peck so asked how much for the roll? "buck 40 if I bought all 50" I said "deal". Third coin from top pops out and its the 1864 L on Ribbon FS-2301 S-1. Appears someone used a solvent on the date? might have been a $150.00 coin before cleaning damage.Still pleased as punch getting a RPD for $1.40. Any thoughts on grade? Thanks.Froggie for once I won't bristle when you comment "cleand" .

Thanks, running into all kinds of Longacre doubling fat arrows funky shaped dates and assorted weirdness. Tons of Indian cents here in North Central Kansas, oldtime dealers just want to move them. My LCS just chuckles at these oddity's and won't jack prices he knows I cherry pick and points to his safe tells me got all you want. He grades much tougher than today's standards pretty much G VG Fine etc.
He sells very few slabbed coins, says I should learn to grade not pay someone. 85 and still coining and wheeling and dealing.

There are some pretty dramatic re-punched dates to be found among the early bronze Indians.

That's a very nice Find! I like this variety a lot but have not found an example to cherrypick. Nice work!
