*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***Anyone know of a way to find out what was wrong with a coin that wouldn't grade at PCGS? It was slabbed as Uncirculated Details. Coin 2423.98 Cert 37252554. It shows as damaged tooled on the paperwork. I would like to know what they saw to give it the .98. Anyone see something in the photos below? "Shine, shine, a Roosevelt dimeAll the way to Baltimore and running out of time" - Tom Waits 'Clap Hands'

Looks like Lincoln has had some work done in front of his neck between his chin and bow tie.

Coop! You're really starting to scare me. I DO see an area on the edge that looks a little strange, almost as if it has been slightly sanded. Great call! Quote:Quote: Looks like Lincoln has had some work done in front of his neck between his chin and bow tie. That area has a small line, but I think it's a clash mark. The overlay for a Wheat cent is exact. It would be from the N in CENT. Both are great answers, I didn't see the die clash or the possible edge damage before. Thanks!

The uneven toning is the only thing I see that might've raised a flag with them. Stands out more so on the reverse image. Thanks, Doug.
Second opinions are always recommended. Rookies thoughts! Two sides to every coin. The edge makes three. Side Note: Sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I don't.

Edge of bust where design elements meet the field appears to have been strengthened. Particularly on the right facing edge.

Quote: Could we see a pic of that edge area? It'll be hard in the slab, but I'll give it a try.
