Hi everyone, I just bought a group lot of ancients containing some interesting pieces. Among some identifiable pieces, there are these two atypical coins. I have not yet received them, so, unfortunately, I cannot report the weights and measurements.

The first may be barbarous or something provincial. However, I do not see any legible text. The reverse contains the familiar roman "SC." And the obverse does not seem to bear a typical roman imperial bust style.

The Second appears to be a barbarous roman coin akin to Constantine pieces from the 4th century. Given the Picasso-esque eye, should I assume that it is barbarous?

Any help would be appreciated!

Excellent find on the first one! It is a rare bronze from the city of Hatra, featuring the God Shamash and imitating the Antioch provincial type. The engravers were probably illiterate in Latin, and engraved the SC upside down relative to the eagle!

Second is indeed a barbarous VLPP type.

Finn235 & travelcoin - Thanks for the help and kind words. I am thrilled that the first coin is in fact from Hatra. Honestly, this is the second piece of this ilk (although with differing obverses) that I have acquired in unidentified bulk lots during the last year or so.
