No hint of cleaning that I can see - just a sharp full horn. Thoughts? Thx!

EF details (ED, spotting). This is not an attractive example of this common date, imo.

Dont agree that a few small carbon spots detail a coin.

Spots may not detail it, but this just lacks curb appeal for a common date to me.

Not a fan of this one.

The obverse is MDS and the reverse is LMDS. The two dies did not start out together. There is extensive die clash evidence on the reverse die, but much less on the obverse die, and the obverse die does not have extensive polishing. Best guess: this was a late 1919 strike, when the mint scavenged the best available used dies to finish production. For a 1919, the strike is average or slightly below average.

The obverse grades VF-30. The hair is merging at the cheekbone, the first digit of the date is starting to merge, and the rachis is incomplete.

The reverse is just VF-35. Despite the horn, there barely 1/3 of the hair on the buffalo's head and barely 1/2 on the buffalo's back. The "F" and "S" of FIVE CENTS are merging with the rim, and the tail is barely separate from the rim.

The grade would net to VF-30.

The rim damage is heavy (especially on the reverse), even for a mid-grade coin. Because this is only net VF-30, it wouldn't detail with that damage, but the coin lacks eye appeal. This date is readily available in much higher grades with much more eye appeal.

Sorry, my friend, swing and a miss here. Even Ty Cobb failed to reach base over 63% of the time, so keep batting!
