Thanks, but once again I do not believe the improvements necessitated a series change.

Edited to add, This just showed up on my Twitter feed,

Obviously, we in the Great American Public are a stakeholder in our currency and this BEP report acknowledges that.

Emphasis added:

Quote:
Due to security concerns, exactly what was changed is not being identified to the public. [...] Discretionary series changes are used to mark certain materials or process changes as a means to allow U.S. Currency Program stakeholders

Just sayin'...

I'm a Where's Georger who wanted to know the reason for the 2017A series. Googled and found this forum. Thanks - I'm learning a lot!

If it's just a seemingly unnecessary change in the ink, then the question is: who is profiting from the ink change? Did a bid go to an ink manufacturer who happens to be a Secretary of the Treasury crony? That seems to be the M.O. of this administration: diverting funds to friends.

I am brand spanking new here, so please be gentle...I found 2 twenty dollar bills with an A after the date. I've never seen this before so Google to the rescue and here I am. I basically want to know if these are something to hold on to, could become valuable one day for my kids or grandkids, or are they not that big of a deal? One is a 2017a and the other is 2004a but other than that I don't know identifying mint marks or numbers or any of that. I tend to hold on to $2 bills and star notes, silver certificates and 'old' money in general. Any advice is welcome.

And I just noticed after posting this, that I have a 2017a $100 bill!

Welcome to CCF froggy. Many series have a suffix letter. The 1935 $1 Silver Certificates go all the up to 1935G. Early $1 FRNs went up to the letter D, so notes having an A suffix is normal...no big deal.

Thanks! Good to know, it would be hard to hold off spending those right now with the pandemic unemployment situation!

I believe over at uspapermoney.info they stated the change was due to reformulated inks.
