1953 was a HUGE year in the British world. Here is just a sample of my creamier coins from this year.

A full set of coins in New Zealand came out in 1953 and these included a massive crown coin of 5 shillings that celebrated both the Coronation of Her Majesty and her and Prince Philips visit to New Zealand from Dec 22 1953 to Feb 1 1954.

These coins were cupronickel with 200k made and are very common even in Uncirculated like this. I have 5 of them! the others all look like this too.
Loving Halfcrowns. British and Commonwealth coins 1750 - 1950 and anything Kiwi.
If it's round, shiny and silvery I will love it.

As NumisRob said yesterday - 1953 coins of Great Britain had a longer inscription that was dropped and this Uncirculated Half crown shows the full inscription.

Compare the overblown latin text next to the simpler inscription on the Kiwi piece - looks much less crowded.

Uncirculated but with a matte finish - it looks a bit cloudy - and you may notice that longer inscription with "Britt Omn" in it. This is a set coin, as a set of 9 coins was issued in a plastic wallet that year. Mine was cracked when I got it and the sixpence had gone!

The Half crown was accompanied by a "family" of coins - that are missing the sixpence

The Florin, both English and Scottish shillings, the Brass Threepence, were all new designs.

The Penny, Halfpenny and Farthing were the same reverses as the George VI coins. Pennies were not issued very much at all in the 1950s. The farthing's days were numbered and only Halfpence kept up regular issues in the 1950s.

I will let some one else show the Crown (I have one, but have monopolised this year enough and they may even pony up some better pictures)

Paralyse - just stunning - blows my crown out of the water.
That coin is gorgeous - most of the 1953 Proofs are impaired because of the cases and bad fabric around them!

They look so much nicer - a nice polished finish unlike my budget uncirculated set!

Here is my best item - a 1953 South African proof set - complete

I bought it like this, silver cloudy, but not worn. The gold and bronze is stunning

Here is the front and the back of the GOLD coins to show you the bust, the South Africans went for Latin, but a basic inscription.

@Princetane, thanks -- thought you'd enjoy it!

Also, that SA set is drool-worthy.

I've got a couple of pretty Maundy issues in the future, but only one more Kiwi coin for now.
