The Blacksmith of Bielefeld note - from a set of 6:

This is the split-finned devil's tail that we are interested in. It goes from the devil figure and out past the Blacksmith:

Now look at the next note, which I have enlarged:

The tail has disappeared!

That is very interesting. Is the reason for its removal (or omission) known?

@jbuck - yes - there are some interesting bits of info about this uncommon variant note. As well as the loss of the tail, there has been a full metamorphosis of the devil figure into the devil's Grand Mother. The figure now has a dress and a bosom. Easy to miss if a collector doesn't study their notgeld carefully!
These pieces were, apparently issued out for free by the Bielefeld Town's Savings Bank to anyone who purchased more than 10 sets of the normal set of 6.

How can anyone not be tempted to start collecting notgeld!! Its brilliant stuff all this. So much to learn and stumble upon - its a great specialised area for the banknote collector.

The note is known as the 'Teufelsgrossmutterschein' - the Devils Grandmother note. It catalogues at 15 euros - if you happen to stumble upon a cheap priced piece!!

This note from Kahla depicts the unending and very numerous notgeld issues falling as leaves.

I like that one. Also conveys how I feel when I think about notgeld - never ending possibilities.

2 pieces now from Neustrelitz - the poverty that the people are suffering and then the never-ending issues of notgeld.
The notes are from 1920 though......so before the peak of notgeld production in 1921 and 1923. The situation actually got worse than the designer knew at the time.......

One could have expected the person to be Deutscher Michel, but this person isn't. I wonder who he is?

That is an interesting back. What kind of outfit/costume is that person on back wearing? I do like the broke people pn front and the never ending raining money theme.

The character on the back of the Kahla note is Deutscher Michel. You can tell that because he is wearing his pyjamas/nightwear and his usual nightcap!
The more you look at some noteld issues, the more you can see this Deutscher Michel character. A bit like the British John Bull or your Uncle Sam.......
