AU-53 details, damaged. Not one I'd spend $25 for.

AU details (badly gouged). Just can't understand why you would buy a damaged common date like this.

PCGS estimates that 350 examples of this coin survive in all grades and they usually come weakly struck. this one appears to have a full strike.

1.1 million minted, which seems to be a larger mintage compared to other coins of that time period. Still, a nice looking coin even detailed.

The 1853 had a mintage of 13.2 million, the 1854 5.7 million, the 1856 4.8 million, the 1857 7.3 million. In spite of the high mintages, the coin was small and thin, thus easily damaged and lost in circulation. The dates listed above are the common dates. An AU55 coin retails for over $300. I'm happy to take a 90%+ discount for a nice example like this one.

I don't believe a TPG would assign a grade to this coin due to the damage. dang shame

I would rather have an honest G-4 example than this. Different strokes for different folks.

Not everything is an investment. I buy things I like. But at 90%+ discount it's a no-brainer.

In hand...
