Yes, there's a reason why I bought this coin, and why it's in a TPG slab. Can you figure out why? Happy hunting!

Grading and thoughts appreciated.

G-6.

Heckuva cherry. I've looked for a long time and only found one of that type, but not the same die.

Dave, the one I picked was a 27 as well. Got it for $22 not in this nice of shape though. Mine was G-4

This is VAM 26, by the way. I now have 26, 56, 57 for 1878-S, and 2 VAM 33 1878's. I need a 27 but they are elusive in the wild!

Good snag! VG-08.

Following the side discussion of VAM-27, I saw one a guy was peddling on a bourse floor last fall, and took a hard pass on it. It had been freed from a belt buckle, was chromed, and had been buffed to death. I . . . just . . . couldn't.

@fortcollins my 27 was heavily cleaned, and handled roughly, but the major die diagnostics are intact.

I wouldn't have bid on it attributed, but as a cherry from a stack of $25 Morgans it was just fine...
