Hello everyone
I'm trying to improve my grading skills (or lack of them) when it comes to "seller" photos. If you would please check out the following eBay coins (first up I feel this coin might have been over-dipped, due to the staining under US of PLURIBUS) 353033844430

and the second coin I feel might have been cleaned on the reverse side 402200417654

And do you feel these coins would grade out as "detailed" what number grade would you give them ?

Thanks to everyone who responds, stay safe and well....

Both appear to be cleaned to me.

I think the photos have been manipulated to make the coins look better than they probably really are in real life.

The Seller has a little bit of questionable feedback regarding cleaning of currency. If he messes around with paper money he most likely messes around with coins too!

The Morgan has damage around US on obverse that appears from PVC. There still is a green tint on the obverse. The coin was most likely dipped to help remove the PVC. UNC Details damaged.

I agree on the second coin has been cleaned. AU Details cleaned.

Both have overexposed photos. They have poor luster and signs of cleaning, especially the Morgan. I'd say unc details for each.

The first one has a complete lack of luster . Looks either wizzed ,cleaned and or Dipped . Nice strike ,no wear .
I'm not finding anything that wrong with the 2nd coin . looks Unc.

If I am considering to buy, I have to admit,
I really don't like grading from eBay their photos, because the quality of them can have huge variation. It is bit easier for the seller to shift his coins, if they have been slabbed first.
That is what started TPGrading in the first place.

Really any coin that is offered on eBay should be slabbed, but that is a problem, because the low value of most of coins offered cannot justify the fees to have them graded.

Nevertheless, I will occasionally attempt to offer a grading opinion from eBay sellers photos, because that is about all that a prospective buyer is left with. That is a whole lot better than nothing at all, for a prospective buyer to consider.

This where a dealer has an advantage, because they submit bulk volumes of coins for slabbing, thus reducing the grading fee cost per coin.

For these coins, I agree with, and respect all of the opinions before mine.

This thread is about buying/grading raw coins from photo on eBay. Please do not hijack the thread into a slab discussion.

Most photos on ebay are good. Photos of Slabbed coins are some times hard to see the differences. What I found is that you can also check the slabbed companies site to check out another photo.

As an example, here is the same coin in different processing.

Too colorful

Too Dark
