Hi!

I started coin collecting and I see on the RCM website that there is a lot of different coins produced in 2020. Is there a way to see which of those are supposed to end in circulation instead of being "collection edition"? For instance, in 2009 we had Olympic quarters that were all in circulation but the birthday quarter was not.

So as an example, for 2020, the connecting Canada 3 quarters set, will these end up produced for circulation? And how can I see this info for futures coins?

Thanks!

New circulation coins are announced via the Canada Gazette published by the Government of Canada. New circulation coins require an update to the Royal Canadian Mint Act - the Gazette publishes the updates as they are available. If a coin is not announced in the Gazette, it is not intended for circulation. By checking the Gazette on a regular basis, you will know what circulating commemorative pieces are on the way.

Here are three 2020 coins that have been announced:

$1 circulation coins with a design commemorating the 75th anniversary of the United Nations Charter

$2 circulation coins with a design commemorating the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War

$2 circulation coins with a design commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Bill Reid

Further to commems post,
there would be a need to check the Gazette on a regular basis, but to know what is to be produced for the whole of 2020, will need to wait check all of the Gazette editions published for the whole year.

The RCM is a business like any other commercial business, and will make ongoing business decisions on an 'on going' basis.

For a full report on 2020 production in a single publication (when full production numbers are known), you will have to wait for annual Mint Report, which would not be published until sometime in 2021, when all of the business records for 2020 have been compiled.

For the 2020 Canada 3 Quarters Set, information in a single publication, would be in the annual Mint Report published in 2021 long after some? of them may? have entered circulation.

They probably unable to tell you before the end of 2020 anyway, if it hasn't been decided upon. You just have to wait for announcements or Gazette publications, as commems has indicated.

Same experience for Australian collectors, and the Royal Australian Mint. (Gazettes included!)

True.
However, there seems to be an issue with the search function. Trying the usual words and word combinations I did not find the following announcements.

Only because of a coin collecting buddy I was made aware of two commemorative circulation Toonies that will be issued in 2021.
They commemorate the discovery of insulin by Canadian scientist. (Coloured/not-coloured).

When I dug around a little bit more I found out that the RCM also intends to issue
--a Loonie (coloured/not-coloured) commemorating the 125th anniversay of start of the Klondike Gold rush

--thirdly, the RCM intends to issue three commemorative circulation 10 Cent coins commemorating the 100th anniverary of the ship ''Bluenose.''

@redlock: Thanks for the info.

In the future, it might be easier for you to visit the web site of Canada's Privy Council and search its Orders.

Go to this page: https://orders-in-council.canada.ca....php?lang=en

and enter " Royal Canadian Mint Act" (without the quotation marks) into the Keywords field and it will bring up info on approved coins.
