I believe you can see how it's going east.

Thoughts?

Maybe? I don't have an example of the 1953-D RPM-002, but it looks a bit like your mintmark:

Or it maybe Machine Doubling. Hard to tell so far from the images provided. I keep it safe for now.

@Coop the link that you sent relating to Coppercoins, isn't a match I'm afraid.

If you're referring to VVs RPM-002, then you might be right, not sure.

Thanks E&V, yes I'm holding onto it for now.

I know it's not a match, it's not even for the same year. But I was showing how a close West could look like.

I could see something like that going on with the mintmark area on your coin.

Interesting, should I try to get better photos or just hold onto it for now?

What t needs is to remove the crud from around the devices to see if the West is really there, or if the crud is what I'm seeing? I normally don't recommend removing the gunk that collects on a coin. But on this one we will find out if it is something of interest, or just another coin. I use mineral oil and the procedure on the image below. This will help to remove the Klingons from the devices. Because of the black grease. It may contain sand and pressing down to remove it might scratch the surface. As always practice on a dirty circulation find until you are able to use this method. This only for circulated coins with undesirable stuff on the devices. New attempt with a valuable coin, or a BU coin. Just circulated dirty coins.

Thank you Coop, I will grab some when I head to Walmart in the next couple of days. I'll post the results here, (might take a couple days however).

Looks like a RPM to me! But I can see how coop's suggestion could help!

And thank you coop for the lesson... I'll have to give what you suggest on a few of my cruddy cents I have. Do you rinse the mineral oil away to finish, or just carefully pat them dry with a soft cloth?
