I've taken the liberty of putting together a combined population of "Silver Riders," graded AU-50 and higher by NGC and PCGS. I did simplify the numbers a bit, I did not include Pieforts, off-metal strikes, and I combined any privy marks (Rooster, Ship) and cabled/flower edge.

In all, there are 353 total graded AU-50 and higher. In MS, there are 170. Only 15 total MS-65 and MS-66, none higher.

Total by Province:
Gelderland - 17
Holland - 27
Overyssel - 19
Utrecht - 217
West Friesland - 42
Zeeland - 31

The forum won't allow me to upload the entire report, but following these directions will allow you to do so.

Copy all of the following and paste into a simple text editor, like notepad or wordpad. Save and change the file extension to .csv (comma separated values). The .csv file can be opened with Excel.

I copied and pasted the data in to excel and then used the text to column command using comma as delimiter. Worked perfectly and thanks for compiling this list.

How far are you in completing this set?

I see my nicest example, a 1791 Utrecht, has a lot of company (28), which probably contributed to making it slightly more affordable.

LOL, right? I recently received my 5th example, 1761 West Friesland, AU-58 NGC.

Thanks for posting! I don't collect these coins, but I understand the effort it takes to catalog a series and I appreciate your willingness to share your work.

It wasn't too bad actually, particularly because of the small population. NGC's basically copy/pasted into excel, with a little clean up required. For PCGS, I had to begin with Excel and import data by web query which worked quite well, although I had to do it by Province. NGC slabbed the majority so I just had to add PCGS's data, sort by province/date, and then combine.

I did the combined pop for the 1893-S Morgan, the rarest Morgan, and the entire pop of these Ducatons is, combined, far less than the 1893-S pop. Total AU-50 and higher 1893-S Morgan is 532. Perhaps apples and oranges, but interesting nonetheless.

Is there a list of Silver Rider varieties? A list of KM numbers perhaps?

With more interest, more coins appear. I shop at Rondomons and it's rare to find these Dutch coins slabbed.

I had a first edition copy of Doug Winter's book on Charlotte gold. Over the decades, his original population estimates in the 1980's have been greatly exceeded. Here's one example

At one time, the 1855-C was exceedingly rare in Uncirculated and when I wrote the first edition of my Charlotte book back in the 1980's I was not aware of a single Mint State piece. Due to gradeflation and new discoveries, the 1855-C has become a more available coin in Uncirculated and today there are as many as six or seven known.

NumisEd, not as far as I know. I haven't really bothered. These are so rare in higher grades, I just buy what I can find/afford.

I didn't take lower grades into account. But I'm fairly certain there's not a lot there either, not including "details" grades. Consider, there are almost as many MS60 to MS66 as there are AU50 to AU58.

I guess Silver Riders are not as ubiquitous as Lion Dollars?

I suppose most of the Silver Riders were melted down at the end of the 18th century to be reused in the production of new coinage (Guldens, Rijksdaalders).
