American again here. I would love to have one of these fakes for my counterfeit collection, as well as to serve as an educational piece since the coin shop I work at does deal with a few foreign exchanges. If someone has one they'd be willing to ship I'd love to purchase one. Ideally I'd like one of the 'newer' lower quality fakes we've seen in recent pages, as one of the 'higher' quality ones we've saw towards the beginning. Preferably one 02 or earlier and one 05 so I have an example of both major designs. I'll do what I can to spread the word down here.

Do you realize you are asking someone to break the law? I realize that it's in the name of education, but you shouldn't put anyone in that position. Technically, it's illegal to possess 1 of these. If I find 1, I'll set it aside, and yes be breaking the law, but I'd never ask someone to jeopardize themselves in this way.

Is it illegal? In the US the buying and selling of counterfeits between parties, when done with good faith intentions, is pretty much, if not fully, unrestricted. Well. I guess I retract my offer than. I was unaware it was illegal in CA.

Today a full box was found at the TD @ Queen and 410. All fake.

So I have a ? if I can word it right, they make the fake coins and put them in boxes nicely package the right way,

How are they getting them into a bank?

They have to get their money and you just don't walk into a bank with a new box of toonies and ask for cash, or do they?

Counterfeit coins have been found in Brinks rolls and if someone searches and returns a box...not hard if they are not being looked at. Here in Trenton all in are searched.....

Just wondering.

The coins are trickling in, not flooding the system. To manufacture the coins one needs machinery that tends to cost $$$ but this doesn't look like to be a massive operation earning more than a couple thousand dollars a month ... I start thinking that these coins are being imported ... a bit at a time.

It doesn't look like to be a big drain in the economy. It is only concerning because those responsible don't care. A wonderful precedent and example being set by them.

Dear authorities: the last sentence is ironic. Don't think I am supporting your disregard for the laws of the country and the concern of the citizens who pay your salary.

I don't think they don't care. I just think they're actively investigating. There's a reason why the big news outlets don't want to report on this.

Most likely they've been told by the RCMP that is an active investigation and reporting on it could jeopardize their investigation and spook those responsible into hiding.

I happened to accidentally stumbled upon RCMP Annual Reports from the 1940s. I wish the RCMP took counterfeiting more seriously! Compared to back in the days, where they really took measures to apprehend these individuals:

During the 1990 to around 2010 or so I would get one or two fake 5 or 10 dollar bills every three months, the bank will just debit your account, then a couple years latter the banks charged a fee for coinage deposit .25% so the banks knows exactly who deposited coinage. Almost sure no bank will take in a full box of new old year toonies and even if they did all banks today have really good cameras, and the banks follow fintrac rules of know your customers

Funny Fact About The New Fake Toonies.

The new fakes with the polar bear foot claw are considered legal tender atm so it's not illegal for stores people or even banks to accept them and give them out, so the new fakes can be sold
