Quote: Jeeezzzz! You're right! Did you submit the coin that way or did it grow on the coin after it was slabbed? I purchased it on ebay and the sellers photos had no environmental damage in the photos? Photo was blurry, but the certification number checked out and the seller had a high grade. The seller did right, he took the coin back and gave me a credit. If you check out the certification number the ED is there, just not as noticeable. https://www.NGCcoin.com/certlookup/3568685-022/53/

Sellers and pictures on eBay don't always work together. Or maybe it was an "intentional" oversight on the sellers part. Nice he took the coin back and gave you credit. And I guess that's a perfect example; buy the coin not the slab.

I also took advantage of that special. Had some modern commems and opened some pre 65 proof sets to get to the minimum. I did do the one time fee of $39 for conservation. (up to 20 coins) One of the Franklins had some carbon spots from a hole in the cello. Other proofs had gotten kind of cloudy over the years. They only conserve the coins they think will benefit. So my 2016 Mark Twain dollar will not go through the process.

Like dealers like to say "grading is subjective"

Only update so far was that Anacs sent me an email to tell me they were going to charge me $109 which they did on 8/1. I don't have any grade and I wasn't expecting them yet. Date to ship back is currently 8/26.
All in all Anacs has been very responsive. They keep me informed and the time is what I expected so far.

I just did the same thing, mostly out of curiosity. Have never dealt with ANACS, but shipped off 20 a few days after you did apparently.
Tried to send off a little of everything, different denominations, a few varieties, just to see how it goes. Pretty confident in the grades of all, so it will be interesting to compare the results.

@USSID, I've heard a number of people saying how tough ANACS was on buffs recently. I don't agree with AU-58 either. I sent off a couple in this submission, so we'll see.

@USSID, didn't get any before shots (in hindsight I probably should have). I'll probably start a new thread once I get them back, expected to ship back beginning of Sept.

I'm looking forward to see everyone's grades. Another reason I am doing this is that I am going to complete a high grade IHC collection. I'm finding a lot of lower priced AU/MS IHC that aren't slabbed, if the grades are what I expect I will buy the raw and have them sent in to Anacs for grading.

So how did I do? Quote: All the Lincoln commerratives I'm expecting an MS66/67. The formative years P may grade MS65/66. The Bison Nickel, I would say PF69 The Samoa quarter I would say MS65 Bison Nickel, I got that one right. The others I undergraded, but something as simple as dropping a coin drops it grade as I dropped the formative years one. Quote: (hence why one coin may grade lower as it fell while I was removing from the 2 by 2). I'm pretty happy with my grading. Its nice having 3 coins at the top of the population.
