Can someone recommend a good coin microscope. Are there any that will allow you to see the entire coin? I need one compatible with MAC for photos, as well. Thanks very much.

heymikep: could you share some photos and the MP of your camera? I've been looking at this unit but was hesitant due to the magnification. Interested to understand your experience of seeing DDOs and markers, such as observing notches and MD flat surfaces.

shantiom, I am sorry but I just saw your message. I purchased my scope from Amazon and here is the package, AmScope SE305R-PZ Forward Binocular Stereo Microscope, WF10x and WF20x Eyepieces, 10X-60X Magnification, 1X and 3X Objectives, Upper and Lower Halogen Light Source, Pillar Stand, 120V. I also purchased a 5.0MP live camera for it as well (it fits in place of an eyepiece). I can see everything from the most minute die crack to doubling to just about anything. I use the camera to take images and for measuring specific distances and I have not had any issues. I have been very happy with this purchase and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I used to sell the Amscopes at my Telescope job, they are nice for the value. Best would be Olympus and Leica stereoscopes, but expect to pay into the thousands for those. AmScope makes some with a zoom range of 3.5-30X which is ideal. I have an older Russian model (not recommended parts too hard to source) but I use it all the time. mostly around .7x to 3x or 7x rarely do I ever need to go much more than the 7x with 25mm wide field eyepieces. Look for trinocular set up for a camera hookup. Mine is also a table stand but if I was doing it again, I would look into a head unit on a reticulated arm instead. easier to keep at the ready, but out of the way when not needed. You might also want to visit the photography forum here at CCF and see Ray Parkhurst's site, he is very active here as well. http://www.macrocoins.com/ He makes really nice set-ups for anyone, custom configurations as well.

I purchased Coin Microscope, Elikliv 4.3" LCD Digital Microscope from Amazon. Here is a link. https://theoptics.org/best-microsco...or-students/I went from a general phone magnification app to a wireless hand held WiFi scope to this beauty. As you can see from my pictures, you can take pictures of your whole coin all the way down to the tiniest knocks or Cud. The attached monitor makes a great portable accessory. I highly suggest ordering your microchip memory card along with it so you can get to work right away. You are able to plug into any tablet or PC for back up though. Charges with a micro-cord. It adjusts basically like a microscope does. A little bit of practice and you will have it mastered in no time.

I have no problem getting to Amscopes site? https://amscope.com/collections/stereo-microscopeIn a pinch type in AmScope into google and stereo microscopes should pop right up. I just tried that link with no issues access them at all. Tried it again (clicking the link I put up), it seems like the link just doesn't play well with the CCF site. They are in business and doing fine as far as I know, copy and paste the link into a new window not directly coming from CCF and should get you there, they show a site update in 2022. We use their products at work in the surgery center I'm at. They even have a special section just for coin collectors. Prices from $31 on up.
