Newman Numismatic Portal has just added the journal of the Standing Liberty quarter Collectors Society (1990-1994). Lots of great information contained inside these old journals titled McNeil's Notes.

All of them are available for online reading of downloading in convenient PDFs. While some of the data on population may be outdated most everything else stands as solid research and information.

I tried to dabble in the series a couple of years ago but found it fruitless in costs of anything other then the common dates and mints . Too rich for my blood . I'll stick with my Washington quarters .

I've only dabbled in this series myself, too rich is right when the higher end coins are in play T-BOP!

The design has always been a stunner to me, and I've had quite a few mid range and a few uncirculated ones over the years. I did finally pick up the SLQ book which is pretty neat and will get a post on it's own in the book section as it came unexpectedly with some bonus item from an auction sale I won it in. It blew me away with coolness factor, will try to put some photos together later tonight and post then.

This coin sold earlier today for $25,200. MS65FH. I was thinking about bidding on it but my wife would have probably shot me.

MS65 with marks like that on it? Wow, I'm sure the head is full but the few marks on the obverse are on the leg and distracting, the reverse hit is dead center in the primary field of view. It is pretty well struck up for a 1916 though.

A nice MS64FH for $23K https://www.davidlawrence.com/product/2071228/

or an ugly MS65/CAC no FH for $26,750 https://www.davidlawrence.com/product/2078804/

Maybe that's not such a bad deal after all. But as T-Bop said too rich for me at this level. Heck even any Fine or better are $5K and over these days.

An interesting fact and probably due to the 1916 being a first year of issue is the population reports at PCGS show more MS65FH than MS65 without FH and in fact they show more FH grades MS64 through MS67 in MS/PR than non FH. People saved these nice looking coins obviously. I do remember hearing rumor about a half roll of mint state 1916's (pre PCGS days) floating around an ANA show bourse floor one year. Never did see them though.
