Interesting that the indent is next to the cud. I can't think of a reason other than just chance. I have several indent errors on copper and zinc cents and like the look on copper much more. Zinc exposure can make an indent error coin look a little messy.
The first US coin motto was found on a 1792 half disme and read: "LIB (erty) PAR (ent) OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY"
