Many of the coins on my want list show up in auctions on continents east of mine, which poses some time zone challenges.

Yes, I know I can always just put in a mail bid. But when there are are multiple lots of interest, and whether I win or lose the first one might affect how much I am willing to bid bid on a subsequent lot ... you get the picture.

So, what is the earliest you have set the alarm and fired up the coffee pot? I don't think I have gotten up before about 5:30 before. But that might change soon.

It depends on the coin. Up as early as needed if it's worth it.

Funny

I have set my alarm for before 7 AM and after 6 AM a few times and regretted it.

I've staid up till 3.30am or so, and I've woken up at 4am or so on a few occasions... has to be something pretty special that I think I have an actual chance at (ie: I might be the only one who has spotted a variety, better piece in a lot, etc). I have only regretted it around 33% of the time - the other 67% has proved well worth it, both for coins / notes for my collection, and pieces for resale. Actually, one of the latter is a rare Pfennig of Wladislaus Von-Schlesien that will be going up on my site today... All in all, early bird sometimes gets the worm.

Congrats! If you needed to be up early, then I assume it was not a Polish auction? I participated in the RDA auction earleir this week, but mercifully they started at 17:00 CET, so no problem of waking early for me.

I've recently gotten back into some US series. One of my main adjustments is what to do with this newfound lack of urgency. On the foreign stuff that might come from the other side of the world, I empathize. It's just weird that anything I look at now to finish these overdue sets, I always have to tell myself, "you can always buy tmrw, next week, next month," whereas some of the obscure foreign stuff you know that if you don't find a way for now, it could be a long while.
My hoard of '82s is up to 202! 218 BC x 1, 118 BC x 3, 18 BC x 1, 82 x 1, 182 x 1, 282 x 2, 582 x 2, 682 x 1, 782 x 2, 882 x 1, 982 x 4, 1082 x 1 1182 x 8, 1282 x 2, 1382 x 1, 1482 x 5, 1582 x 13, 1682 x 15, 1782 x 56, 1882 x 49, 1982 x 33

@tdziemia - you would be correct ;) I think that WCN and Niemczyk both time their auctions so that they are convenient for buyers in both NA and Europe... I used to time my Ebay listings that way, but honestly can't be bothered with the recent degradation of the quality of clientele on that particular platform - if they find the listing, great, otherwise, not likely much of a loss XD
