Looks like we are all lacking a florin this year. :(

Steve

Not for long hopefully, lockdown ends today and I might be a bit luckier with 1925 for Florins.

Plus my collections of Australian Bronze have nearly dried up as well

Plus we are entering the earlier part of George V now, coins that have had 20 or more years of heavy circulation and have become scarce in any condition.

The days of whole sets of $2 coins and even 1950s Pennies and Florins and are long gone

Any coin now is bring it on!

If it's round, shiny and silvery I will love it.

I just did a quick check and I still have 77 coins to show.
Not that the quality gets any better.

I haven't counted mine, but a guess would be 30 to 40 and at least 15 of those are shillings. Aren't you all glad I bought that shilling collection whe we were still at like 1993 on this thread?

These coins were issued 1910 - 1918, 1920 - 1922, 1924 - 1928 - so those years I will have coins.

Florins I have left, 1914 1918 1921 and possibly one more

Haven't counted up the rest but know I have plenty of coins between 1919 and 1921 (Lots of coins issued in those years), also 1910 to 1912 - rest is looking sparse.

1923 may be a year of nothing (Just a warning), no shilling and a mega rare halfpenny.

UPDATE - I checked my shillings left to show yesterday and gave them all conditions

VF - 2 coins
aVF - 1 coin (Although reverse is stained)
gFine down to aFine - 7 coins
VG - VG+ - 3 coins (Including 1915 and 1921 star)
Good to aVG - 2 coins (1912 - 1920)

Best coin to show is EF+ 6d from 1911, but its damaged

My Australian coins for 1925:

I got my 1925 penny around 30 years ago from The Arches coin market underneath Charing Cross Station in London. I worked for a travel firm based in London and had to go to their Head Office about once a week, and often went there for half-an-hour before getting my train home. One dealer had a huge tray of coins for 3p each, and one day I found about 20 George V Australian pennies in it. This was one of them. It looks nicer in hand, but is toned to quite a dark chocolate brown colour and is difficult to photograph.

I was going to say, 1925 is a RARE penny.Lucky find! That coin is at least high Fine towards VF, so a $400 or so coin. You don't have a 1923 Halfpenny do you?

I don't have any copper at all from that year. I do have all the silver (Now) though - just this afternoon bought 5 Florins off the guy who showed me Tudor and Stuart Crowns and milled shillings of Elizabeth I.
.

Unbelievably average group here, the 3d is VG, 6d is gVG but stained and a full fine shilling.

That would be it for me, until this afternoon, first day of Level 2 (No Lockdown but still social distancing)

I bought this Fine to gFIne 1925 Florin

The seller claimed it was VF, I soon set him right and it was cleaned (Like 99% of coins in NZ, thank God his Tudor crowns were not cleaned).

UPDATE: Have added pictures of my new Florin buys on my Florin thread, however these include some coins not shown here yet, so if you don't want to see them already don't look.

Dates are 1959 Upgrade to EF/AU, 1944 Melbourne (Coin I did not have - usual EF), the 1925, 1924 and 1916 M damaged.

Nice coins guys.
Well done Rob on getting that penny so cheap.

Not sure about the $400 though. I thought they
were more expensive, but a few I have checked
lately have been more in the $200 - $250 range.
Here is one on Stirling and Currency's website...

I was reading my McDonald catalogue which had it at that price, and given he is very high, I of course assumed you could get one cheaper.

Have some good coins coming up for 1924!

Yes, catalogues do tend to be over priced.

I wish I could say the same, but one of my worst coins is 1924. I should update one day.

Those are beautiful, welcome to the thread! You are only 95 years late! But hey any chance to see gems like those.

Now Ryurazu, you may notice the 3 of us have slightly more modest items most of the time as well, so you can be the star here! You don't have a 1923 Halfpenny do you.

Also our new year starts at midnight Forum time which is 6pm in NZ and 1pm - 4pm Australia depending on where you are. At the moment we are in 1925 and soon it will be 1924.

We were also showing NZ coins too, but these stopped in 1933, 8 days ago.

Thanks Princetane, was just watching mostly not posting cause I knew that most of the early (recent minted) coins would definitely be posted, surprised not as many mint sets.

Hmmm not surprised that's started to slow down now, maybe all that smuggling of silver florins to get melted down in (Hong Kong 1960's) has started to impact the survival rates of these coins.

wish I did have the 1923 halfpenny, I don't think ill ever be able to noodle one and buying one is current out of my price range.

I hope the golden coins come out for the dates past 1910 would be very interesting.

Just did some statistics out of interest.

I worked out what percentage of completeness my Australian Predecimal coins are for each denomination.

I counted up total possible dates and types, excluding minor errors, one off patterns like 1937 and proofs.

Here is my results.

Halfpennies - 18/59 = 31% (My most dismal completion rate)
Pennies - 37/84 = 44%
Threepences - 39/54 = 72%
Sixpences - 29/48 = 60%
Shillings - 57/57 = 100% (Well I did buy a whole collection)
Florins - 36/55 = 65% (Includes 33/51 standard and 3/4 comemm)
Crowns - 1/2 = 50%

Total - 217/359 = 60.45% Not bad, progressing!

Just took photos of my 1918 to 1924 coins today, I will be away Thursday to Sunday and may have to post 2 or 3 years of coins at once before or after I return (First leave in years).

Getting my 1924 goodies out of the way early. My coin counts for the next few years.

1924 - 3
1923 - 1
1922 - 2
1921 - all 6 coins!
1920 - 3
1919 - 5 (4 as I have 2 types of the penny)
1918 - 3

This florin I bought just yesterday! It's a decent VG to gVG but not cleaned for once and a circulation cameo as well!

Also a shilling and threepence. The Shilling is barely VG, but also a scarce date with just 673k made, worn ones like this are not that costly but better ones are!

The 3d is stained but generally nicer (Fine again).

Starting with 1923 you will see more bronze coins from me and surprisingly a patch of fairly complete years around 1920. Some of my 3d's are also fairly nice coins and I have done some more solo obverse shots, and just combined reverse shots for each year.

Bring on your coins for 1924!
