Four years ago, while putting together a dozen coins to send to NGC for the first time, I picked out my prettiest 1966 1 Won coin to send in. Upon putting it under the loop I discovered a tremendously beautiful error; possibly never found before.

The "BANK OF KOREA 1966" from the reverse was mirrored and struck on the obverse. Even my wife, who is not a collector could see the error. The submission resulted in the likely first ever attribution of the clashed dies error to 1) the 1966 1 Won coin and 2) probably any modern Korean coin... ever:

I say this with confidence in that there is no data at NGC that proves otherwise and the coin was shown to multiple expert coin dealers in Seoul and even they were shocked. The most famous coin dealer in Seoul himself said, "How on earth did you find this? I've never seen anything like it."

That same year I found a few more of these errors in my collection. A more common error than I thought? It turns out that die clash errors can number in the hundreds or thousands or more depending on when the error was detected/when the dies wore themselves out. The same year, I sent these errors to NGC who sent them back as two MS-63s and one MS-62 without the clashed dies attribution. Confused, as I could see the error with my bare eyes, I let the coins sit in my box for a few years.

Recently, I sent the pretties of the three back for re-grading, asking NGC to reference my first discovery and this was the result:

Needless to say, I am a very happy panda.
