Is it possible to distinguish a double-die on a poorly graded coin? Below is a black-and-white photo of a 1919 Mercury dime DDO from an internet search, then a pic of my coin. Thx!

I doubt DDO - looks more like a slight circulation hit with that part of the "S" flattened.

EDIT - or metal pushed. Either or - just PMD

Looks like a circulation hit / contact mark.

The doubling should still be clearly visible on the T even on an example in this condition.

Don't think so. You would see it on the U and T as well as the full S

Even if it was the condition of that coin would make it of no difference in value.

I disagree with that point here is an AG3 that just sold for over $1,000.00 at a Stack's/Bowers auction. A similar graded non DDO would bring maybe $4.00 at most.

That said I think there needs to be more proof of the DDO and I'm not seeing it enough on your coin Firebird, sorry to say.
