1969 Prince of Wales Investiture Medal Charles Silver 45mm Royal Mint Hallmark On Rim w/Box.

I see that there are at least a couple of different sizes and I can't find any info about them so if any info or even a link to a resource would be great. Thank you.

That is serendipitous - I have never had any of these before but picked up 2 in a box load of coins yesterday!

My quick research found several smaller sizes on Ebay. The Bronze and gold plated seemed to make little money. Largest silver I could find there was 70g and had sold for about 55 (very little over melt). I have one Silver one at a fraction under 100g, 57mm and a gold plated bronze at just over that - both still boxed.

Obviously they were issued around the time of the Investiture in 1969. Despite the beauty of the dragon, I suspect they are not popular with the Welsh Nationalists who object to an English Prince being dubbed Prince of Wales!
What they are really worth is really what you can find someone to pay for it. I can see yours is on Ebay, but I suspect that price is too optimistic.

Thank you for the info and insight. Yes, I think you have valid point regarding the correlation between the "popularity" of the event/act having an impact on market sentiment regarding the medal. While doing research into the event itself once a person peeks behind the "glossy Royal veneer" indeed you find a none to popular (and a bit bazaar) situation.

My price discovery thus far is inline with what you stated.

I think that is very cool you have that giant 100g example.

P.S. The price on the listing is way high as it's a momentary placeholder price.

This may not be very useful, but here are some extracts from an old coin book I have, "Collecting English Coins 1857-1971" by David Nash (published in 1970 by Corgi Mini-Books):

In Spink's Catalogue of British Commemorative Medals by Daniel Fearon two sizes of this medal are listed (number 420.1): 57 and 32 mm. Both occur in silver and copper gilt. Also two other types are listed. The first by J.Pinches (57, 45 and 32 mm) all silver and the second by Fey, size 52 mm silver.

Thanks Eligius - that is useful information.

Still begs the question: "What are they actually worth?" The answer, of course, is what someone will pay for them - which from the evidence of Ebay is not much over melt!

Indeed.

Sincere graduations and excellent purchase. Awesome timing with the recent epic silver premiums also.

I overpaid a significant % over spot. $100 USD for the one. Cleaned very weirdly/oddly(?) too.

Most, including myself of course, love to share stories about the "winners". Human nature is what it is so quite understandable.

Thought I would share a "loser" transaction for a change. Especially one this fundamental.

And by a person (i.e. me) that's been 'around the block' so many times over my lifespan I AM THE BLOCK.

Over confidence mixed with an inflated ego shaken with poor timing a soothing tonic they do not create.

LOLOL

I did slightly better - the 100g Silver version came to me "almost free" (that is to say in a big lot and so owed me very little). I decided to be realistic with the price and sold it on easily for 90. Maybe I could have made more, but a quick and easy profit is always pleasing.
