What grade do you make this 2000 Reis from 1889? There is strong detail in the hair and beard, and on the veins of the leaves on the reverse.

I'll say EF-45 (Sheldon).

High VF, British grading, almost but not quite EF.

A nice coin but possibly cleaned in past.

Historically very interesting as 1889 was the year Brazil discarded its emperor and became a republic, also finally freeing the slaves.
Loving Halfcrowns. British and Commonwealth coins 1750 - 1950 and anything Kiwi.
If it's round, shiny and silvery I will love it.

This one got AU details, so I think yours is at least EF-45.

Tdziemia - do bear in mind the difference between British and American grading (Too liberal).

I only ever grade British as I live under the command of her most Britannic Majesty!

Vivat Regina!

High VF British = high EF American.

I was not disagreeing with your assessment.

OPs coin seems to have stronger hairlinesn obv, but a bit more wear to high spots rev (crown and globe) than the coin I linked.

Nice AU-50. Hard to find these with original surfaces like this one has.
