I have barely been on the forums since last year for a variety of family issues and I apologize for that but I needed to get back on because of a 2021 Tuskegee quarter my son found. It looks to me like the planchet was damaged before minting but I wonder the opinion here. As seen in the photos, the marking/scoring/damage is below Washington's chin and the TY in Liberty is damaged from it and it stops at his neck. It then picks up at the back of his neck, seems to go "behind" his hair and finally terminates. Opinions are welcome! Thanks, Mike

Looks more like die damage, can we see full obverse and reverse pics?

It wouldn't be planchet damage. It may be from over polishing the die that wasn't buffed off. As lawest stated, always supply a photo of the whole coin when making inquires. This gives us a better perspective of what is going on

I agree with die polish lines. Full pictures are still needed, though!

The damage was on the die, thus transferred to the coin.

after looking closer at other parts of the coin, I noticed some other things. It looks like the base of the 2nd T in STATES is missing. the upper edge of most of the words is weakly struck or the die worn.

then I noticed a inverted V mark on the R in AMERICA that doesn't appear to be post mint damage. I need to try to get a better picture. And finally this pit on the pilot's chin.

Your looking too hard for things that aren't there. Everything you pointed out can be attributed to damage Suggest reading up on an error site to see what real errors are to save you time. This is one that I use regularly Error-ref.com

Thanks for the last images of the full reverse. I feel after seeing the direction on this one, this is from Feeder Finger Damage. Often the other fork on the finger affects the eye area. But on this coin the damage was on other fork. When the finger is struck, it alters the shape of the finger and it now scratches the dies surface. This causing the coins to have altered fields or designs on the coins. With the last image, it showed the direction. That is how I came to this conclusion on your coin. Always nice to have the image of the the jig saw puzzle to know what we are looking at.
