I just won an eBay auction
I'll be getting the 2008-W Burnished Silver American Eagle with 2007 Reverse die design Variety.

Graded as SP69 by ANACS

When I get it, I'll probably send it in to PCGS to re-holder and see if it can be up-graded.

Hope you don't mind me asking but what's the difference between the two?

Well the 2008-W Burnished ASE had a few (about 41,000 coins) inadvertently minted with the wrong reverse die. they used the one from 2007 instead of a new design from 2008.

A coin graded from PCGS at PR70 can bring on more than $3,000.00.

Mine is graded at PF 69 (SP by Anacs) which brings in a value of about $700 to $800.

here is a photo of the difference.

Well you learn something new everyday. You wouldn't expect West Point to do something like this, but they are pretty small differences. Most "Reverse of XX" varieties are practically impossible to see with the naked eye.

After seeing my see proof ASE's displayed, I have decided to go after the burnished coins. Starting with this variety.

Ahhhh...this brings back memories. I fondly remember getting two orders of 5 each of the 2008 W's early on and found 8 of the ten with the 2007 reverse. Off to NGC they went and 5 came back 70's...

Still have two 70's and 2 69's

Resold at a decent profit a bunch of 69's that I bought before the major price rise graded for around $130-$160 each

I'm guessing that the 1995 W Proof would be one of the 3, but what is the 3rd?

Foxwoods, I'll be visiting your eBay store for Burnished ASE's you will see my 'handle' cross your desk. On eBay I use 'w_dearborn' (clever of me, huh?)

So. Did this variety come in the single version sold by the mint or in the uncirculated dollar set sold by the mint in 2008? It's my understanding it came in the dollar set, but I haven't come across one in either format to verify that information.

The dollar set was 1 2008 W Burnished silver eagle and 5 dollar coins.
