Well, that is a herd question to answer. If I keep it, and others start showing up, then the value will drop. At the moment, I'm looking for a value as if I was planning to sell it. I already sent off a request to HA for an evaluation, but nothing back yet (if ever)

I have never had or was in a position to have to evaluate the value of a coin until now. If I were to guess at it, I see ways it would go, spot on value, WAY too low, or WAY too high - and with my experience, I would most likely go either go too high or too low.
Now I do understand that the value does depend on what the buyer is willing to pay for it, but where do I start?

Consider posting the coin on a well known Numismatic auction website WITH a link to the CoinWorld article. That should drum up interest.

Thanks , that is a great Idea, I guess I'll have to subscribe to CW so I can link to it.
Is there a list of these sites anywhere so I may decide which would be better?

any suggestions on how to place a number on it?

Not really, without putting it on the auction block. (That must be the reason for some sellers putting extremely high values on some items of uncertain value, to test the waters.)

Seems like your starting point is how much you have invested in the slabbed coin and coming to terms with what you feel the sentimental and numismatic value is. Being the first of any kind usually means there is tepid interest in the item at first. ( Close AM and Wide AM Lincoln cents are a prime example but there were more of them to generate interest and therefore a market.)

I would keep a printed copy of this thread and Mike's article to add legitimacy and desirability to the error.

Dearborn,

Don't forget to put up the auction link here once you decides which venue you're going with.
