Hi, I have this 1935 Buffalo nickel that appears to have the double effect where it says United States of America. I have found sales of the double effects on the lower part of the coin where it says 5 cents but none in this same spot.

I was wondering if this is authentic and if so, is it worth sending for grading given it's worn condition?

Any thoughts on this would be most appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

I took the liberty of resizing and cropping your image. I'm no expert but a quick search says there's only one major doubled die reverse in the entire series, also 1935, and yours isn't it. Yours is so obvious and wildly offset that it would have been widely proclaimed by now, and so my guess is this was a counterfeiter's attempt to recreate the known one. But I don't know...

Thank you so much for the prompt responses. I plan on doing additional research to better understand counterfeit coins. Is there any indicators that make it conclusive when determining this? Weight of the coin, offset appearance, materials used I'm guessing might all be factors? How does one eliminate the potential that a coin might be an authentic one of a kind vs a fake?

Thank you again.

Weight would help, but submitting it to a major grading company is the only way you can be sure.
