Hi guys. I found this 2017 Ellis island, but the letter I ( In god we Trust) seems to be broken but at the same time looks like it has a hit.

It would be pretty hard for a letter that is incuse on the die to be broken.
Looks like it has just taken a hit that flattened it.

IMO I'm thinking Grease Filled Die, since the flow lines and area around are not affected...Either way PMD or GFD spender in eyes.
I'm by no means a pro and will never claim to be...just my 2 cents

Heavy die polishing on the motto area. Note the flow lines are taller than some areas on the devices. Note a DDO.

No distortion on the devices, like a DDO would have.

I think it's taken a hit from another coin. Regardless, it's post mint damage ( PMD).
