This one stuck out like a sore thumb when going through my change. What causes this? It appears the number 3 is on top.

Can it be some sort of a lamination error? Are 2003 Canadian 5c coins plated? Maybe what is seen on the picture is some kind of minor error with the plating of the coin. I am sure someone experienced with Canadian coins can tell you more.

Possibly a minor Struck Through.

And yes molydeii, it is a plated nickel.

My guess is a pre strike shallow planchet flaw.

I don't think it's a struck through or the devices should be effected as well. Is it incuse? I can't tell from the photos . The first picture looks like a possible struck through but on the close up shot you can see the 3 is not effected at all.
