Had the winning bid on this one tonight. First time I've had this type 1/2 ecu (vendor photos).

Nice cameo patina that enhances eye appeal, and thus value, above the nominal grade.

Nice!
I had no idea that there was a mint still operating in Caen that late in the game.

Is that your first from that mint?

Au contraire!

1721-C Ecu of France

1726-C Ecu with Olive Branches

1727-C Ecu with Olive Branches

1730-C 1/2 Ecu with Olive Branches

1732-C 1/2 Ecu with Olive Branches

I realized don't have an "Ecu with Head Band" type from the Caen mint. Those seem to be all low mintages (<50K).

The Caen mint director's mark of Pierre Julien de Goupillieres (serving 1705-1737) appears on the obverse of each of these coins:

and the engraver's mark of Olivier Laurent Rocque (serving 1703-1752) appears on the reverse of each of these coins:

Grading wise, I would say close to Fine, probably high VG - nice circulation cameo and a very clean and neat piece.

I think the French would say Bien (Bonne?) Conservee (BC) or Tres Bon (TB).

Notice conditions TB, TTB (Tres Tres Bon) and SUP - (Superbe). Suspect these may be VF, EF and UNC?
Loving Halfcrowns. British and Commonwealth coins 1750 - 1950 and anything Kiwi.
If it's round, shiny and silvery I will love it.

Agreed, for me the obverse is B 10 and the reverse is a bit better at TB 15.

Nice and historical coin. From what I saw, also very rare - I did not see a single entry for a Demi Ecu 1725 for Louis XV from mint C.
Congratulations!

Obviously I still need the 1/16 ecu of this type, which is hard to find and a bit pricy. Some of the smallest denominations are the toughest.
