Hi, I ordered a couple of corroded Liberty nickels. The purpose is to attempt to clean the coin to make it less terrible in appearance. I plan in soaking them in olive or motor oil for a month or so then remove some of the debris with a tooth pick with the aid magnification.

I never heard of using motor oil ,but now that you mention it wouldn't kerosene be a better choice for them crusty corroded Nickels ?
