Other than the MM, are there other characteristics to distinguish one from the other? Or should the MM alone be enough to determine.
I am struggling to get sharp images on these proofs due to glare. As soon as I work it out, I will post a comparison, unless that violates the one coin per thread rule. The only images would be of the 2 MM's.
Also, what are Type 1 and Type 2 MM's considered? Varieties?

The type I MM is considered to be a 'filled' S but that is not always the case. But it will be pointy long the spine of the S.
The type II is the 'clear' MM and is also considered 'flat' along the spine of the S.
I'll post up a few pictures in a minutes.

...and yes, I, myself consider them to be a variety. one that goes across all denominations from the cent to the half dollar in 1979 and 1981 on the S proof coins. I think it is also present on the Sac dollars too

I am not seeing a difference between the 2 examples. If I were to guess, both appear to be filled S.
