Sorry. When I say video drop I meant a recording of you showing the address and info of the person you are sending to and then dropping it into a post box. This should not have to be sent to rggoodie unless an issue arises where a package never arrived, you would have proof that once the package left your hands it was in the hands of the post office(just to show it was not your fault the package never arrived).
This is my first experience doing secrete Santa and I don't think pressure should be put on the host more do I think people should have to worried about not getting there gifts, but the event definitely brought tons of Christmas joy to many from what I could see.

I don't know about the mailing system in Canada but in the states you can't just drop a letter or package in mail box without a postage stamped . Another words how do you know what the postage will be ; Every package by weight will be a different price unless you opted for flat rate mailing .

I know standard letter mail you only need a stamp. Depending the weight I think you just pay the postage, the heavier the package the more the postage. So you may need 1-4 Stamps depending on the weight. At least that's what I took from the website. https://www.canadapost-postescanada...pricing.pageSomeone with more experience with shipping will hopefully weigh in as iv never shipped this way personally and have sent a total of 5 or 6 packages ever lol.

that's probably a good rule to have add so that if there is any disagreement or some sort of issue with mailing people can have proof at least they aren't the ones at fault, this year is an exceptional year for mailing due to the worldwide ban of air travel making and international package mailing a nightmare not just on top of the normal everyday issues.
I knew there would be issues this year so I gave it pass. I think if at the end of this year, everything is back to normal Rggoodie you should continue. If situation gets worse I wouldn't blame you for suspending all of this.
i'll suggest if you setup feedback period beforehand just to see what the situation is like in everyone country if they want to participate, yes I know it be some extra work but as long as there are issues with covid and other delays it probably a better stop gap measure so that we have some idea on moving forward.

First $10 should be the minimum for a gift - anything below that value really isn't of interest to anyone. 2nd - I agree to send to a gift to the UK and paid for the tracking - I provided it to the host but could post it on this as well but they I am revealing myself as the Santa. So ask ahead. Once tracking is provided, no need for a 2nd gift sent. Maybe $20 for the gift would be better, I always send gifts worth much more than that with no regrets. Nobody likes to get garbage.

Well you can remove me from the list! Today I received a large envelope which contained a very nice Christmas Card with a hand written note, along with an assortment of foreign and US coins and the only $1.00 note from Bermuda that I have in my collection. Thanks so much!! Merry Christmas to my Secret Santa, you did an outstanding job!!

First $10 should be the minimum for a gift - anything below that value really isn't of interest to anyone. Value is a debatable topic but I don't disagree with this idea. As a Canadian getting nice American coin examples could cost me 2-5× what I would cost most Americans so I wouldn't be like we'll it's cheaper for you so value is less. In all honesty I don't think value should really matter as it's subjective. Between my two gifts and shipping and tracking on the second this event cost me around 100$. If as a first year with not that much to work with I have no issues over this event other then the odd head butting. I do hope it continues. If shipping prices are an issue opt into local gifting. If it's that much of an issue for the minimum value then simply change it to minimum 5$ in bullion rather then coins. I could have shipped a 1-2 pennies "valued" over 5$ based on market prices. The event is about giving and enjoying one another, the fact that it seems to be getting complicated seems pointless. As for gifts not received thats only up to the sender to have proof it was sent to the address it should have been, if this is done then it should not be an issue or more work for the host. I also notice I have been a little over opinionated considering this is my first year and I'm rather new.to the forum in comparison to many of you, I just enjoyed the event and want to see it continue.

I recently went to the PO to mail a letter with ONE coin inside. I needed stamps anyway and didn't think anything of going to the counter to mail what looked like a normal letter with 1 coin... until the clerk molested my envelope, said "there's an object inside, it's a PACKAGE. That'll be $5.00 please." I said "no thanks," and dropped the envelope in a nearby mailbox where it was later delivered - no problems - with just a normal stamp. But two envelopes I sent abroad were RETURNED to me with notes. Was told the letters were packages and needed additional postge and customs forms. I lost money on those deals! Whenever possible, I go to the self-serve kiosks and hope for the best. I even visit different POs in my area ... but those 2 international letters I sent still came back to me for postage and forms. So for important trades and other deals I don't take chances. I just pay package rate. But for common, base metal coins it's just not worth the cost. To be clear: a few coins in an envelope will get through, but not if mailed at a counter, only at a kiosk. PS: anyone else in the US notice that mailboxes now only have a narrow slit? Can't fit anything more than a thin letter in there now. Everything else MUST be handled inside the PO. Meanwhile, I just got a good-sized PACKAGE from a collector in Europe. No stamps, no forms, no return address. He paid online in his country, HAND WROTE the postage code in the upper-right hand corner, and dropped it in the mailbox. Took 5 weeks to get to me but I got it safe and sound. Anyway, that's my 2 cents - plus some - on postage. How this affects the Secret Santa... I dunno. I love the idea and had GREAT fun with this event and hope it continues in one form or another. Thanks to rggoodie for handling this year after year. I understand if he bows out.

Quote: The event is about giving and enjoying one another, the fact that it seems to be getting complicated seems pointless. @Wrekkdd, I agree with you on this point, hopefully, we can improve a bit so we would have a better and more enjoyable Secret Santa exchange. Thank you for explaining what a video drop is. That means video clip has to be very brief as e-mail can only send up certain number of mbs. Not sure if rrgoodie accept texts or Dropbox or Google Drive? I think photos are better in this case. @ jeffbuckes, yes, anything that is over 1/4 inches are automatically package rated especially for international shipping. For domestic shipping, it depends as they do have surcharge for this purpose in my case, it usually is 78 cents instead of 58 cents. It is because of sorting machines, but I am not sure. I understand they took them out? Some postal clerks do not have much knowledge about the international shipping which is a headache for me. I had to fought several times to get them to see the differences, etc. then they usually agree with me. Now international shipping is outrageous. It is a shame as it means we will do less shipping abroad. I think? For me, I am familiar with high postage from Europe. I always tell myself that it is cheaper than flying into to buy anything there.
