Iphone Tripod/Remote

Looks interesting, Parnelli917...I'm tempted to start using my iPhone for coin photos as my scanner doesn't quite do the job, especially with my old copper tokens. That Bluetooth remote looks great, and it would certainly be more convenient than setting the iPhone's shutter timer for every shot.

I guess I'm curious about how you keep the tripod's legs out of the way if/when you're taking a downward-facing shot of a coin. Or perhaps you're posing your coins in some non-horizontal setup?

With my "regular" photo rig, which I haven't used in years, I would overcome that problem and prevent the tripod from tipping over by using a boom to extend the camera past the stretch of the tripod's legs.

I noticed on Amazon that Ubeesize also has kits that include some very inexpensive ring lighting. I wonder if that would work well to negate glare and shadows in your situation?

Finally, do you have any good iPhone coin photos you can post in this thread? That way you can share what works and what doesn't...so we can all learn from your mistakes, ho ho.

@Westcoin, I was using a stack of books before I bought this tripod. It worked pretty good but my eyes aren't so good and sometimes I'd shake the iPhone when I tried to push the camera button. How do you use the headphones as a trigger?

@daltonista, The one thing I haven't quite perfected the angles yet. The tripod doesn't have a perfect horizontal plane (the books did). I've only taken a couple of shots so far. Just got Morgans and Peace dollar in the mail. Don't have the lighting right yet. These aren't great but their all I have at the moment!
