Just browsing the bay and saw this, have not looked closely at the others, but the " Trade dollar" immediately caught my eye as off.

The seller has one negative feedback and it's from a buyer who is complaining that his $200 fake bust half appears to be cleaned.

The other coins he has sold in the past 6 months are fakes as well.

Reported again. eBay's bots don't care and live people are few and far between to look at it.

FWIW...

The "Trade Dollar" included in the lot is a copy of an 1873 pattern for the Trade Dollar - it is not meant to be a copy of the issued coin. The reference number for the pattern is J1315/P148 (the numbers correspond to either the Judd or Pollock pattern coin reference volumes).

Though it's clearly a fake, the design is reasonably faithful to the original.

This seller has quite the collection of red flags:
a no-return policy
no meaningful feedback
significant percentage of negative feedback
multiple coins that would be unlikely to be grouped for lot sales

And on and on. Yet people are bidding on this stuff.

This won't stop until auction sellers like eBay are held liable for selling counterfeits.

Guys like this put this stuff up on eBay on long holiday weekends 'cause they know nobody in authority is watching and the bots could care less. By the time someone with authority sees it it's long closed and the Seller is already laughing all the way to the bank.

And .. SOLD, for $504, with 41 bidders. Just sad. This is seriously hurting the hobby, and it seems unstoppable.

Speaking of red flags, how about this description:

Quote:
These are coins from my belated father's collection. I'm not too educated on old coins and do not know any grades or if they have been cleaned. I've only sold coins from my fathers collection I'm not a coin dealer. These are the last of his collection. I've sold several coins here from this collection so far. I don't know the value of these coins.

Yeah right.

FYI, if posted in the correct forum, I likely would've taken care of it the day it was posted.
